Two very talented Elementary School artists have been selected to exhibit their artwork at the Colors of Long Island: Student Expressions Exhibition 2016. Accompsett Elementary School Fifth-graders Sophia Barazani and Abigail Staudt have their artwork on show, at the Long Island Museum, now through May 1st, 2016. Both students were invited along with family and their art teacher, Rob Springer, to a celebratory reception at the museum on March 13th.
The exhibition, held annually at the Long Island Museum of American Art, History and Carriages in Stony Brook, features 300 works of art from 135 public and private schools across Long Island. The annual showcase, sponsored by Astoria Bank, gives young artists the opportunity to see their creations on display in a real Museum setting.
Art teachers in grades K-12 are given the opportunity to submit up to three piece of art, created by individual students or in a group. The theme, “Colors of Long Island,” allows students to create various interpretations, from painting Long Island landscapes to the cultural diversity. The various forms of the theme are portrayed in multiple artistic categories including watercolors, sculptures, quilts, drawings, oil pastels, photographs, media and computer graphics.
The Colors of Long Island exhibit, is on view Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5, in addition to concert hours. For information about exhibitions and other programs call the Long Island Museum at (631) 751-0066 or visit online: www.longislandmuseum.org.
