The Smithtown Senior Citizens Department will host a special Living with Alzheimer’s Community Education Program for Caregivers, presented by the Alzheimer’s Association®. The community education series, beginning in the month of June, covers Early, Middle and Late Stages of Alzheimer’s Disease, with the first four sessions taking place on Thursday evenings from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM in the Senior Center auditorium. The final session, Late Stage Alzheimer’s for Caregivers, will take place on Thursday, September 13th from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM, also held in the Senior Center auditorium.
Living with Alzheimer’s For Caregivers Schedule:
Early stage – June 7 & 14th | 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM at the Senior Center auditorium
In the early stage of Alzheimer’s disease, families face new questions as they adjust. This program provides practical answers to questions that arise in the early stage.
Middle stage – June 21st & 28th | 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM at the Senior Center auditorium
In the middle stage of Alzheimer’s disease, care partners become hands-on caregivers. During this series, you will hear caregivers and professionals discuss helpful strategies to provide safe, effective and comfortable care.
Late stage – September 13th | 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM at the Senior Center auditorium
In the late stage of Alzheimer’s disease, caregiving typically involves new ways of connecting and interacting with the person with the disease. In this series, you’ll hear from caregivers and professionals about resources, monitoring care, and ways to engage in meaningful connections.
Note: The first four sessions will be held on Thursday evenings from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM. The last session (Late Stage) will run for two hours on Thursday, September 13th, 2018.
