The team at Smithtown Today has a soft spot when it comes to caring for our residents on the Autism Spectrum. We consider it a personal mission to inform and educate others regarding Autism Awareness. So when we learn that our favorite County Legislator is also leading the charge… well, we just have to give her a big standing ovation.
On Sunday, September 27th, Legislator Kennedy attended the Developmental Disabilities Institute’s (DDI) Annual Walk and Run for Autism, at the Holtsville Ecology Park. People from all over Suffolk County flooded the park to show support, raise funds and awareness for individuals diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. The perfect Fall day was filled with celebrations, picnics in the park, live entertainment, games and even a petting zoo.
“The DDI’s dedication and care has helped so much in the quest to help young people struggling with Autism. The Walk and Run is just one example of how much of a superb job they are doing in helping to improve the lives of Autistic individuals and their families.” – Legislator Kennedy
