Legislator Kennedy Hosts the Second Annual Women’s Power Breakfast

In honor of Womens history month, Legislator Leslie Kennedy hosted the second annual Women’s Power Breakfast this Wednesday. The Power Breakfast, held at the Stony Brook Holiday Inn Express, brought 90 women from all walks of life to network and speak to their experiences obstacles and opportunities faced either as a businesswoman, politician, community activist, or not-for-profit sponsors. Legislator Kennedy was especially proud to be hosting this year’s breakfast during National Women’s History month.

I am grateful not only to the Lieutenant Governor and other elected officials, but to all women, from all walks of life who are inspiring women throughout Suffolk County and the rest of the country. There is no limit to how far all of us can advance to… I cannot wait not only to have next year’s event but also look forward to hosting future events for women here in Suffolk.” – Legislator Leslie Kennedy.

Legislator Kennedy was joined by fellow female Legislators in the County including Kate Browning, Sarah Anker, and Monica Martinez. Other local officials in attendance included Town of Brookhaven Councilwoman Valerie Cartright, Town of Huntington Councilwoman Susan Berland, Smithtown Receiver of Taxes Deanna Varricchio, and keynote speaker, Lieutenant Governor of New York State, Kathy Hochul.

The Lieutenant Governor’s speech included a testament to her own background, emphasizing the great strides, women in business have made. She concluded by offering words of encouragement to all women who strive for individual and universal success.

Other speakers at the breakfast included President and owner of GSE Dynamics, Anne Shybunko-Moore and Gina Coletti Co-Chair of the Suffolk County Alliance of Chambers/ former 2014 Suffolk County Women of the Year.
