The rain was no match for the lifesaving Legislator Kennedy, who kicked off her first blood drive of the season, during the annual Smithtown Day Street Fair. In a collaborated effort, Legislator Kennedy, joined forces with Cooely’s Anemia Foundation, Order Sons of Italy in America and Dr. Vincenzo Sellaro Lodge, to deliver the New York Blood Center and Blood Bus at Sunday’s festivities.
The goal to replenish depleted blood banks on Long Island was successful with some 47 pints of blood collected out of approximately 60 donors screened. Those donors, who gave their blood were rewarded with two free Mets tickets to watch last Year’s National League Champs play at Citi Field.

Kennedy praised the New York Blood Center for their performance in handling the high volume of donors. Each blood donor was taken care of properly both before and after giving blood.
This was the first of Legislator Kennedy’s annual Blood Drive Season events. The next blood drive is scheduled for Sunday June 27th, 2016 at the Lake Grove Village Community Center.
