Leandra’s Law Arrest After Car Crash

A car crash that took place yesterday evening, on Route 25 and Moriches Road in Lake Grove has resulted in a Leandra’s Law arrest.  On Sunday, February 28th, at approximately 5:40 p.m. Suffolk County Police arrested Ronkonkoma resident, Rashelle Man for driving under the influence with her child in the car, following a crash.

The collision took place when Mann, who was heading eastbound on Route 25 in her 2006 Nissan Altima, turned left, in front of a 2014 Toyota Rav4, which was heading west.

Her 2 year old son was in the vehicle at the time. The boy was transported to Stony Brook University Medical Center by a Nesconset Fire Department ambulance, for evaluation.  After being examined, Mann’s son was discharged and released to a family member. Hauppauge resident Cindy Tran, the driver of the Toyota, was also taken to Stony Brook University Hospital. She was treated for minor injuries.

Mann, 26, of Ronkonkoma, was charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger 15 Years Old or Younger (Leandra’s Law), Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.  She is scheduled to be arraigned today at First District Court in Central Islip.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information about this crash to call the Fourth Squad at631-854-8452.

Suffolk County Police officials remind the public that a criminal charge is an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
