The Board of Education at Kings Park School Districts will hear a detailed presentation on school improvements during the next board meeting. On Tuesday August 25th, 2015; a facilities committee comprised of residents, school staff, students and board members, will present findings for potential improvements at Kings Park Schools. The detailed presentation will cover repairs and improvements to building infrastructure, safety and security, athletics, and curricular issues in need of development. The presentation will be held at Kings Park High School next Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m.
This is the second meeting in a line up of discussions, hoping for constructive feedback from the Board of Ed and community members alike, with the intent of improving and financing the district’s facilities issues. Over the course of the Summer, the Facilities Committee has surveyed school building conditions and storm damage in need of repair. In addition to cosmetic needs, the group has also identified improvements needed to accommodate school curriculums.
The committee has been tasked with offering recommendations on how to improve the obstacles at hand, including how to fund the revitalization. Discussions to finance high tech equipment and educational technology which will give graduating students the tools needed to thrive in tomorrow’s economy include applications to utilize Governor Cuomo’s Smart Schools Bond Act. Suggestions and opportunities for funding renovations include potential aid from the state on green initiative projects.
The Board of Education will then review recommendations and solicit community feedback before presenting a bond referendum to the community for the upcoming school year.
