Hope in the Wake of Nesconset House Fire

Tragedy struck one Nesconset family this past Sunday, when the Nesconset house fire destroyed personal belongings, keepsakes and claimed the lives of their five cats. Operating room RN, Michael Wall, his wife and 4 year old daughter were left with nothing but each other on Sunday night. However, before the smoke would clear, Wall’s other family at Southside Hospital, rose to his aid, proving that in the darkest of hours, hope shines through.

Just hours after a fire tore through the Wall’s Summit Drive home on Sunday, a gofundme.com page was created by a Southside Hospital collegue. By Monday, members of the hospital community had donated close to $8,000. Messages of encouragement, support and hope fill the Go Fund Me page, offering whatever anyone can spare. Smithtown Today would like to encourage our readers to join in helping the Wall family by sharing this story or giving what they can.

On Sunday, April 3rd, the high wind gusts caused a power outage in the Summit Drive home. After the power had been restored, the sister of Michael Wall, who was in the home at the time, smelled smoke. She quickly told her brother, who followed the smoke to the basement. Wall found the basement engulfed in flames. The family was able to escape the blaze and call for help.

According to Nesconset Fire Department Member Ronald Monteleone, the residential structure fire was extremely fast moving. Mutual aid was called in from Smithtown, Saint James, Ronkonkoma, Lakeland, C.I. Hauppauge Ambulance, Hauppauge and Centereach Fire Departments. Under the command of Nesconset Chief James C. Keane, Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control. The fire is currently under investigation.
