Harbor Country Day School’s Artist-in-Residence Showcases Her Work in The Art Collectors exhibition at Gallery North
A local Artist-in-residence at Harbor Country Day School has been chosen to showcase her artwork in an exhibition at a Setauket gallery. Larissa Grass’ masterpieces will be featured in The Art Collectors exhibition at Gallery North through March 11th. The show features original lithography prints from Grass and other prominent local artists, as well as selected prints from the private collection of Richard Gerrig and Timothy Peterson.
With ten years under her belt as Harbor Country Day’s artist-in-residence, Grass credits her program as one that guides students to a lifelong appreciation for the fine arts.
“My teaching philosophy is much the same as my artist’s philosophy… Just as I continually evolve as an artist, I expect my students to do the same as they grow in their knowledge, perception and appreciation for the arts. I consider it my primary responsibility to guide them in that journey.” -Larissa Grass, Artist-in-residence at Harbor Country Day School
Over the course of Larissa Grass’ time at the St. James Day School, the artist has inspired a love of the arts in countless students. Many of whom, have already expressed interest in a career in the arts, including one student who recently joined Newsday’s art team.
“My favorite aspect of teaching at Harbor Country Day School is how much we, as a school, value the arts. That institutional commitment is evident throughout the entire school, and you really see it shine through the students’ work. They all are so talented – they never cease to amaze me!” –Larissa Grass
In addition to creating and showing her own work and leading Harbor Country Day’s art program, Grass produces the school’s Young Illustrators Challenge, an annual art show featuring artwork from children (K-8th grade) from school districts throughout Long Island. This year’s Young Illustrators Challenge will be held on Saturday, March 19th.
