March Madness wasn’t the only B-ball dance in town over the weekend. On Saturday, March 19th, the Harlem Wizards took on the Hauppauge Eagles (faculty and Hauppauge School district administrators) in a special basketball game for charity. Suffolk County Legislator Leslie Kennedy served as an honorary Guest Score Keeper, along with special Guest Referee, Comptroller John Kennedy. Suffolk County’s favorite couple went all out for the special game, dressing for their rolls and enjoying each responsibility with honor and gratitude.
“The Harlem Wizards put on a great show and they are extremely skilled in their craft, I had a lot of fun as the honorary score keeper, and I look forward to this event each year.” -Legislator Leslie Kennedy.
The annual game was hosted by the Forest Brook Elementary PTA at Hauppauge High School. All of the proceeds from the ticket and memorabilia sales went to benefit the Courtney Sipes Memorial Foundation, the Forest Brook Elementary Parent Teacher Association and Hauppauge High School. The Harlem Wizards took tons of photos and signed memorabilia for a packed house all in the name of charity.
The Courtney Sipes Memorial Foundation provides scholarships for high school seniors in the Hauppauge and Smithtown school districts who wish to pursue a career in the arts. In addition to fundraising events, the foundation has made extraordinary strides in making the intersection of Main Street and Lawrence Avenue safer for pedestrians.
