Performance at Chinese New Year Celebration a first for the St. James Independent school
Harbor Country Day School has announced that 13 of its students will participate in the 2015 Chinese New Year Celebration at the prestigious Confucius Institute at Stony Brook University. The event, which will be held on February 15 from 3:00 p.m.5:00 p.m. at Stony Brook University’s Wang Center, will feature performances from several prominent artists and local Chinese culture organizations, such as the Stony Brook Chinese Youth Dance Group and the Chinese Students and Scholars Association. Harbor Country Day is the only independent school that has been invited to perform.
“Harbor Country Day is honored to participate in The Confucius Institute’s Chinese New Year Celebration,” said John Cissel, Head of School at Harbor Country Day School. “Our Mandarin program has become an integral part of our curriculum since we launched it two years ago, and it continues to grow. Our Mandarin teacher, Hong Li Snyder, elicits a remarkable level of excitement and interest among her students by bringing to life the Mandarin language and Chinese culture. By participating in this program, our students will have the unique opportunity to expand their understanding of Chinese culture even further beyond our classroom walls.”
