Good Samaritan and Suffolk SPCA Rescue Abused Pup On Route 111

A young pit bull, was left for dead in the middle of Route 111 in Central Islip, Monday night. The 1 ½ year old pit had been strangled with a cable wire and thrown out like trash in subzero temperatures. A bloody bag was also found at the scene. Thanks to a good Samaritan who took action and called the Suffolk County SPCA,  the pup was treated and now recovering at the Veterinary Medical Center in West Islip.

Officials at Suffolk County SPCA have named the pit bull Rocky on account of his will to live despite the abuse he endured. Investigators are offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for this felony level crime.

Veterinarians at the Medical Center report that Rocky had been beaten in addition to being strangulated and has neurological damage, which could take several months to determine if the brain trauma is permanent.

Authorities are asking anyone with information on this incident to call the SPCA at 631-382-7722
