A public hearing on the proposed improvements and upgrades for Sunken Meadow State Park is scheduled for Oct. 23 at Kings Park High School, the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. Residents may participate in the planning efforts discussion for the park, express concerns and ideas for the drafted plan during after the group presentation.
Plans include a Children’s water spray park, mountain bike and hiking trail renovations, the rehabilitation of the East Orchard bathrooms, expanded picnic areas, designated scuba access and main bathhouse renovations to accommodate year round usage.
In addition to the many improvements made to the park, a number of ecological developments are planned. Wildlife habitat monitoring and rare species sanctuaries, land and shore erosion repairs and sustainable green facility development are all included in the Parks drafted plan.
