Three Smithtown High School West students have been recognized for participating in the prestigious Congress of Future Medical Leaders in Boston this past June. Aidan Buzard, Jesse Damm and Morgan Thomas were nominated to represent Smithtown HS West as the next generation of Future Medical Leaders. Each student was presented with Awards of Excellence from the National Leadership Academies.
To Qualify for the Congress of Future Medical Leaders, students must be nominated to represent their schools and states by teachers, counselors or principals who serve on the National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists’ Honorary Board of Educators. Nominations must be based on academic excellence, leadership potential and a commitment to enter the medical field as physicians or medical scientists (biomedical, technological, engineering and mathematics).

In the next ten years, there will soon be a shortage of as many as 150,000 primary care doctors and specialists, according to the American Association of Medical Colleges.
The National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists is a nonpartisan, taxpaying institution that encourages and mentors students wishing to devote their lives to the service of humanity as physicians, medical scientists, technologists, engineers and mathematicians. The founding basis of the National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists is the belief in identifying prospective medical talent at the earliest possible age to help those students get the experience and skills necessary to bring them to the doorstep of this vital career.
