Fourth Precinct Lieutenant Marty Gansrow presented a special year end report in his monthly update at the January 8th Town Board Meeting. During the 2PM board meeting, the Lieutenant covered a wide range of information, including year end crime statistics, SCPD goals for 2019, the retirement of 48 year SCPD Veteran and Fourth Precinct Inspector Jantzen, and the January 18th Girl Scout Jamboree at the Smith Haven Mall.
The annual Girl Scout Jamboree taking place this Saturday will host approximately 2,000 people. State and federal agencies involved include emergency services, criminal intel, and Homeland Security. While the annual sleepover begins shortly after closing time, residents should plan accordingly. Higher than average pedestrian and traffic congestion is expected.
End of the year crime statistics produced a reduction in crime. Robbery, Burglary, and Motor Vehicle Crashes decreased compared to 2017. The Fourth Precinct remains vigilant in combating the opioid/drug epidemic. Last year, there were 171 non-fatal overdoses in Suffolk County. Emergency Responders had 101 Narcan saves county-wide, 17 of which were in Smithtown.

Inspector Jantzen was with the Suffolk County Police Department for 48 years. Prior to to 1971, Jantzen served four years in the United States Navy. Jantzen is expected to retire later this month on Wednesday, January 30th.
