Commissioner Timothy D. Sini Announces Fourth Precinct Cop of the Month
Congratulations are in order for Fourth Precinct Officer, David Mascarella. Police Commissioner Timothy D. Sini has deemed Officer Mascarella as the Fourth Precinct “Cop of the Month” for the month of February 2016. The esteemed award was given to Officer Mascarella for his bravery, dedicated service and recognition from the community.
Officer, David Mascarella has received 4 Letters of Appreciation since he has been with the Department, dating back to October 2003. Most recently, Mascarella was revered for his heroism in rescuing a Commack woman and her dog from a house fire.
On December 11th, 2015, Police Officer Mascarella received a call, at approximately 9:25 p.m., regarding a Commack house fire, with a woman and her dog trapped inside. Officer Mascarella arrived at the scene, practically blinded by fog and heavy smoke. With near zero visibility, Mascarella relied on sound to locate the house. The intense heat made a front door entry impossible. The Officer identified a woman holding her dog, at a second floor window. He convinced the woman to drop the dog down to him. With the assistance of a volunteer fireman, Officer Mascarella then caught the woman who also jumped from the second story window.
Both the woman and her dog were rescued from the house fire without any serious injuries, thanks to the quick response and actions of Police Officer David Mascarella.
Police Commissioner Timothy D. Sini is proud to name Officer Mascarella as Fourth Precinct “Cop of the Month” for February 2016.
