A tragic car accident in Fort Salonga took the lives of two young men early yesterday morning, leaving one survivor in critical condition. Hauppauge resident, Leland Acampora was driving his Hyundai Sonata, on Fort Salonga Road just west of Makamah Road, when he lost control of his car. Acampora’s car crashed into a tree at approximately 4:30 A.M.
Leland Acampora 26, and his rear seat passenger, Commack resident Woody Zalman, 26, were pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. East Northport resident, and front seat passenger, Paul Weingart was airlifted via Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital. He is remains listed in serious condition.
The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are investigating the single-car crash. Anyone with information about this crash is asked to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
