A Fitting Tribute To Supervisor Vecchio

Vecchio Dedicated His Life to Smithtown

Maureen Rossi

On Tuesday March 3rd, the Smithtown Town Board unanimously voted to dedicate the Town Hall in honor of after long-standing Supervisor Patrick Vecchio.

It was a very well attended meeting with throngs of friends present as well as Mrs. Vecchio.   The announcement was met with great applause and a standing ovation.   The Supervisor of close to four decades shed tears of gratitude.

Indeed a well-deserved tribute, the town of Smithtown is a very beautiful place to live.  Many many important decisions had to be made over almost four decades to keep the bucolic feel and to keep it a place that is well-known for being a family-friendly town.

Smithtown is a place that reveres it’s Seniors, it’s veterans and it’s children.   It is also a town that has great reverence for the natural beauty. A  small town nestled against the Long Island Sound with the Nissequogue River running through it, we have some of the most beautiful beaches and waterways in the region.  We have well-maintained marina’s and parks, beautiful buffers on our winding country roads.  We have been named one of the best ‘Tree  Town’s in the country for close to a decade.   Supervisor Vecchio has accomplished a great deal through his dedication to this town and its people.

Tributes such as dedicating Town Hall in honor of Supervisor Vecchio should never be kept on hold until someone retires or passes away, they should be given as they were on Tuesday March 3rd.   Known to be a brilliant man beyond the scope of most people’s understanding with regard to culture, music, travel and the written word; many say there is no doubt that he could have been Governor of this great state.  But he chose his town, his people and that’s who he worked for.  Known for being at his desk bright and early, his work ethic is one rarely seen but one necessary to run the complexities of a town.

“I commend the Town Board  for taking this well-deserved action. Supervisor Vecchio has been a longtime friend, neighbor and mentor of mine and I am thrilled that the building where he has spent the past 38 years leading the Town of Smithtown will be named in honor of him.” – Suffolk County Legislator Robert Trotta (R-Fort Salonga).

Congratulations on a fitting tribute,  much deserved to the man who dedicated his life to Smithtown.
