Fire Safety at St James FD

Did you know that a fire department responds to a fire call every 23 seconds in the U.S.? In fact there is a Fire related civilian injury every 33 minutes and a fire related death every two hours and 41 minutes every day. October is Fire Safety Month and the Volunteer heroes at St. James Fire Department want to keep our town safe from these statistics. On October 2nd, the St. James Fire Department will kick off fire prevention month with a special community event and Open House.

On Sunday, beginning at 10 AM, families are encouraged to visit the Jefferson Avenue Fire Station for a number of activities and demonstrations. The days events will showcase a variety of services the Fire Department provides the public. Demonstrations will include firefighter hose operations, roof cutting, vehicle stabilization, extrication and blood pressure checks. Children and adults alike will receive valuable lifesaving knowledge regarding fire safety and what to do in the event of an accident.

The Open House is also a great chance to visit with the men and women of the St. James fire department and to consider volunteering as a prospective member.  Whether you wish to teach your children how to be prepared, minimize danger in your home or see yourself as budding brave hero, every resident can benefit from this excellent event.

The St. James Fire Department’ Fire Prevention Day is October 2, 2016 at 10 AM located at 221 Jefferson Avenue in St. James
