A Monday morning commute was halted by a fatal two-vehicle crash, on Jericho Turnpike in Smithtown. The accident happened in front of 894 West Jericho Turnpike, Smithtown and claimed the life of a Central Islip man.
James Poallo, 61, the driver of a 2002 Hyundai Sonata, attempted a left turn into the Island Parts Outlet parking lot from the westbound side of Jericho Turnpike, when a Huntington man in a 2001 Ford F350 pickup truck struck Poallo from the eastbound lane. Although the driver of the pickup truck, Guillermo Linares, had no injuries, his male passenger was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for minor injuries.
James Poallo, was pronounced dead after being, transported to Stony Brook University Hospital.
The fatal wreck is currently under investigation by Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad detectives. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this case to call the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.
