Elementary Students Give Back to Camp H.O.P.E.

Bob Sweeney's Camp H.O.P.E.

Mills Pond Elementary School Students create and donate jewelry to Camp H.O.P.E. to support grieving families.

The Parent-Teacher Association at Mills Pond Elementary School is teaching younger children, that the giving season is more than opening Christmas Gifts under the tree.

Together with the Smithtown Central School District, the PTA hosted a holiday giveback with Pieces of Energy jewelry on December 8th.  Students got the chance to create two pieces of jewelry; one to keep and one to donate. The extra piece of jewelry will go to children who are part of Bob Sweeney’s Camp H.O.P.E. Camp H.O.P.E provides bereavement programs to children and their families who have suffered a family loss.

Camp H.O.P.E.Pieces of Energy was created by the Rogak family, after their daughter Rebecca was diagnosed with Crohns disease. Their desire to raise funds and awareness for Crohns disease, inspired an innovative concept. The Rogak family enlisted help from friends, family and community members to create inspirational jewelry, to raise money. Together Pieces of Energy was born, creating handcrafted pieces, all infused with love, hope and healing energy.

About Camp H.O.P.E.

Bob Sweeney’s Camp H.O.P.E. is a FREE 2 day camp for children ages 5 – 17 who have lost an immediate family member. Through the talents of Good Shepherd Hospice, Camp H.O.P.E. is professionally staffed and offers grieving kids and an accompanying caregiver the opportunity to share their feelings in a safe, fun and healthy environment. One of the many benefits for the children who attend this camp is that they will be around other children who are in similar circumstances. Currently, Camp H.O.P.E. is offered to grieving families once a year, in addition to an annual holiday party for families each December.
