Hollywood’s biggest night is this weekend… Which means, it’s time to get your I’d Like to thank the Academy speeches ready and imagine you are a fabulous movie star with friends and family. Throw the hottest Oscar Party on your block with a few tools and materials you most likely have lying around the house.
Red Carpet Entrance
Make stanchions out of swimming noodles, PVC piping and patio umbrella bases. If you do not have umbrella bases lying around, you can make a stanchion bottom out of Styrofoam and fast drying cement. Cut a large Styrofoam sphere in half. Insert the bottom of the PVC piping in the center of the foam and cut out the excess foam from the middle. Weigh down the base by coating the Styrofoam with QUIKRETE® concrete mix. Set aside to dry. For the Stanchion rod, put an end cap on each of the PVC poles. Drill pilot holes on both sides of each pipe, directly under the caps. Screw in 2″ X 5/8″ screw eyes, into the holes. Next, assemble the base and the stanchion rod. Spray paint the entire stanchion with metallic gold or silver paint. For the rope, string nylon rope (laundry rope) through swimming noodles. Tie the ends of the rope to snap hooks and cut excess string. Once the Stanchions have dried, snap each rope end to the screw eyes and line the walkway of your home. Optional, Add a red carpet to go with your velvet ropes. Party City has a 15 Ft. felt red carpet available for $6.99
Hollywood Lighting
Create a Hollywood ambiance with a bunch of flashlights and tissue boxes! Spray paint empty tissue boxes black or silver/gold. Allow each box enough time to dry. Simply place each flashlight into a tissue box and line a wall with them, evenly spaced out. Tip: if you do not have empty tissue boxes, fill brown paper lunch bags with enough dry rice to hold the flashlights in place.
Oscar Awards Centerpieces
Dig through the kids old toys for a few Ken Dolls, or pick them up at a dollar store. Spray paint the ken dolls with Metallic gold paint and set aside to dry. Remove labels from a tuna can and paint black. Once dried, hot glue Ken’s feet to the tuna can. Place flower arrangements and small lanterns around each Oscar Award (aka Ken) to give each table an authentic Awards Night look.
