DECA Takes 100 Smithtown Students to Finals

On January 4th over 70 DECA students from Smithtown High School East and West placed, or received honorable mentions, during the Suffolk County Regional DECA Competition.  An additional 35 Smithtown students are completing their manuals for the state level competition. The students now qualify for the state competition in March, held in Rochester, New York.

 

More than 2,000 DECA students from high schools in throughout Suffolk County participated in the competition, held at Suffolk County Community College. The Awards presented to students, ranged in category. Business topics included  accounting, business management and administration, business law and ethics. Marketing awards went to students in Industries like apparel and accessories, food, hospitality, automotive services, marketing communications, marketing management and sports and entertainment marketing. Awards for hotel and lodging management, human resources, personal finance, public speaking and quick serve restaurant management were also presented.

The 35 Smithtown students who are finishing up their Manuals for the DECA state level will focus on various business/marketing areas. Each  manual must be between 10 to 30 pages. Students who place in the performance and written events in Rochester will get  to compete at the International DECA Competition, this April, held in Anaheim, California.
