Smithtown High School West DECA students Courtney Grafstein and Rachel Chapman honored our Veteran Military Men and Women by orchestrating a special Comedy Show Assembly for all eleventh graders. The two DECA students partnered up with Project 9 Line to, using the Arts as communication tool in bridging the gap between civilians and Veterans, on Nov. 10th, 2015.
“Veterans don’t often ask for help after they return from war because they are so used to helping others… Project 9 Line helps these veterans heal through humor, the arts and entrepreneurship and integrate themselves back into society.” – Courtney Grafstein
Courtney Grafstein and Rachel Chapman chose to work with the non-profit group, Project 9 Line in conjunction with their DECA community service manual. The two juniors have also organized a food drive, accumulating nearly 1,000 pounds of groceries and raised close to $700 from their movie night fundraiser.
About Project 9 Line:
The Non-Profit Organization’s mission is simple… to bring Veterans and civilians together, through outreach, communication and purpose, using various forms of art. Through networking, workshops, and career development programs, Project 9 Line allows Veterans to transition into civilian living, achieve goals and express themselves in a creative fashion.
