Fundraising to go to Operation Jake: a 2,000 mile bike ride to help homeless Veterans and raise PTSD awareness
Get ready for some delicious Barbecue in the name of a noble cause. Next Wednesday, July 22nd, Councilman Ed Wehrheim will host his annual BBQ at The Watermill in Smithtown starting at 6 P.M. Each year, hundreds of Smithtown residents gather together for a casual evening of fun filled with dancing, raffle prizes and great Barbecue in the name of charity. As a Vietnam Veteran, Councilman Ed Wehrheim makes a point each year to donate proceeds from his annual soiree to Veterans groups.
This year, all money raised will go to aid Operation Jake, a 2,000 mile bike ride to help homeless Veterans and raise awareness for PTSD. The founders of BeesWELL, Shannon Burbage and Ronald Perrone deemed the bicycle tour in memory a dear friend; 173 Airborne Brigade Veteran, Jacob S. Thomas. The partners will bike 2,000 miles from New York to Key West, documenting stories of homeless veterans along the way while giving out BeesWELL Personal Stoves and Survival Kits. The philanthropists hope to raise awareness about PTSD within our community by documenting each story and giving every Hero they meet a helping hand.
Tickets for the event are $85 per person. The Watermill is located at 711 Smithtown Bypass.
To be a part of the excitement, RSVP no later than Friday, to Friends of Ed Wehrheim: 20 Burr Avenue, Kings Park, NY 11754.
