Get ready to go Live with Congressman Lee Zeldin from the comfort of your sofa… Tonight, March 7th, 2017 beginning at 7:30 PM, Congressman Zeldin will host his first Facebook Live session from Washington, DC. Through Facebook Live, the Congressman will  provide an update from the nation’s Capitol regarding what he’s working on in Congress and answer questions from constituents, who comment during the session.

Congressman Zeldin has made a point of finding new and unique ways to make it easy for his constituents to get in touch with him. through public forums, telephone town halls and mobile office hours. Most recently, Congressman Zeldin hosted a Tele-Town Hall event, where approximately 100,000 homes were called. Of those homes called, there were 9,116 people on the phone listening plus an additional 1,015 listening online. The Facebook Live forum, brings with it yet another way for Congressman Zeldin to engage with even more constituents in a substantive, productive setting.

 

Some Recent Work – Potential Topics for Facebook Live  

In just the first week of March alone, Congressman Zeldin has been busy in Washington DC working for the 1st Congressional District on local issues pertaining to everything from Veterans Affairs, people with disabilities, agriculture and the growing threat of hate crimes.

The congressman recently sent a written request to the Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs, for a quick replacement of the Northport Veterans Affairs Medical Center Director, Mr. Phil Moschitta, who retires April 1st, 2017. Congressman Zeldin also states, that a new director, chosen from outside of the Northport VAMC system, would bring about the new, strong leadership, needed to restore trust and repair relations that have been damaged by past events.

The Congressman has also taken measures to protect the American Jewish Community from the rise in recent anti-Semitic acts happening around the globe. Zeldin sent a letter to Secretary of Homeland Security, John Kelly, Attorney General, Jeff Sessions and FBI Director, requesting which specific steps are being taken to identify and prosecute those individuals who would perpetrate these crimes against the American Jewish community.

The bipartisan bill to protect people with disabilities, ensuring access to vital equipment (H.R. 1361) was also re-introduced by Congressman Zeldin. The Congressman’s legislation, clarifies the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act (MIPPA) of 2008.  This vital bill is essential to help secure essential, specialized power wheelchairs and related accessories relied on by people with disabilities and their families

At the beginning of the month, Congressman Zeldin sat down with members of the NY farm bureau and local farmers in Washington DC to discuss the high priority issues pertaining to the agriculture industry and how to help solve the economic and public policy issues facing farmers within New York.

National Security topics may include his recent signing of a letter to the new Secretary of State, requesting  specific answers to growing concerns regarding the Iran Nuclear Deal, from the previous administration
