Community Rallies Together at Hoyt Farm in Support of Local Father Scott Vasile

Family, friends, and the Smithtown community gathered at Hoyt Farm to raise money for longtime Commack resident Scott Vasile, who is in need of a kidney transplant after being diagnosed with kidney failure. The fundraising event took place on Sunday, July 22. Hundreds came out to the event to donate, have fun, and show their appreciation for Scott and his contributions to the local community.

“It’s a true testament to Mr. Vasile to witness all whose lives have been impacted by his mentorship and inspiration come together for him now. Scott Vasile has devoted a lifetime to shaping future generations through community outreach. His Altruism lives on in our younger generations and it is an honor to present him with this proclamation for his work throughout our community.” – Supervisor Ed Wehrheim

The fundraiser was largely organized by the members of Boy Scout Troop 322 of Commack, of which Scott is an Assistant Scoutmaster. It featured food, a DJ, and many raffle prizes provided by local businesses. The other adult leaders of Troop 322 participated in a choreographed dance to “Holding Out For a Hero,” as a fun way to entertain the hero of the day, Scott Vasile.

Scott Vasile has 3 sons, two of which have been members of Cub Scout Pack 322 and Boy Scout Troop 322. Scott participated in the scouting program as a child, and later became an adult leader after his sons entered the program. Scott’s work as an adult leader and passion for scouting has instilled life lessons and leadership skills within many young men.

A carpenter by profession, Scott has worked with several of the Troop’s aspiring Eagle Scouts on their Eagle Scout projects. While these projects are coordinated and run by the youth, Scott has used the experience from his trade to act as a helping hand and knowledgeable resource on these projects. Through Scott’s guidance, numerous beautification efforts have been completed, including animal pens at Sweetbriar Nature Center and Hoyt Farm, and benches at Commack Middle School.

At the fundraiser, Scott was presented with a proclamation from Supervisor Ed Wehrheim, detailing the respect and admiration that the entire Town of Smithtown holds for all of the work Scott has done to enrich the lives of the youth and improve the quality of life within the community. Scott was then given a round of applause and standing ovation from the crowd, who all wanted to say thank you to Scott for all he has done.
