Smithtown residents are keeping Supervisor Vecchio in their hearts and prayers after a nasty fall sent him to the hospital. Many concerned citizens have begun sending “Get Well” cards to his office. Sources close to the Supervisor say he will be out of commission for some time. After being discharged from St. Catherine’s of Sienna, Supervisor Vecchio is expected to spend three to four weeks in St. Charles Hospital’s physical rehabilitation program.
Our investigation into what caused the fall did not come easy, as no official notice has been given to members of the Town Council as of present. However, we were able to confirm from two separate sources that Supervisor Vecchio had a surgical procedure on his back earlier this month, which he was expected to recover from at home for two weeks. During his recovery, a blood clot in his leg, caused the Supervisor to fall in his home, resulting in a broken hip… or just a fractured leg (depending on who you ask)
The editorial team at Smithtown Today asked local officials and dignitaries if they’d like to express their kind words of encouragement during the Supervisor’s time of healing. Our two favorite female leaders got back to us promptly, with compassionate wishes while Supervisor Vecchio is on the mend.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Supervisor Vecchio, he is a strong man and will be back to work in no time.” – Legislator Leslie Kennedy
“Best Wishes for a speedy recovery! My thoughts and prayers are with him.” – Hon. Janine Barbera-Dalli
Although we haven’t had much luck, getting an official confirmation from Town Hall, it is expected that Deputy-Supervisor McCarthy will take on the day to day business of the Supervisor’s responsibility.
It is difficult to see of the leader of Smithtown as a man approaching the twilight of his life… Especially when he has spent close to four decades as our Supervisor. While we have been critical of the Supervisors modus operandi in the past, Smithtown Today acknowledges that the soon-to-be 86 year old has led an extraordinary life and career within our Community, deserving the utmost respect. In his time of recuperating, we wish Supervisor Vecchio optimal health and the chance to rest and recuperate in a stress-free environment.
