Smithtown Firefighters Battle a Brooksite Drive Two-Story Blaze in Blizzard Conditions
A fire broke out in the middle of the snow storm, at a Brooksite Drive home, Sunday morning. On January 8th, at approximately 3:17 AM, the Smithtown Fire Department received the Signal 13, or a Garage Fire call, located at 33 Brooksite Drive. The fire department arrived on scene shortly after to find the fire was quickly spreading up to the second floor of the two story home. The call was quickly upgraded to a Working Structure Fire, or a 13-35.
Fire Departments from Kings Park, Commack, St. James, Hauppauge and Nesconset responded to offer assistance in battling both the blaze and treacherous weather. Firefighters got to work, making their way from the exterior of the home to the interior. The goal was to contain the fire to the garage and rooms above it, an impossible task considering the strong wind gusts.
Fortunately the homeowners were able to escape the blaze before the fire spread from the garage to the second floor. No injuries or conditions requiring hospitalization were reported. The Smithtown Fire Marshal is currently investigating the cause of the fire.
All units returned to quarters at 5:56 am.
