State, County, and Town of Smithtown officials joined VEA 181st Realty Corp. and Zucaro Construction, Vision Long Island, the Smithtown Fire Department, and the Smithtown Chamber of Commerce in the groundbreaking ceremony for the Lofts at Maple and Main, Smithtown’s First Smart Growth Transit Oriented Development. On Monday, October 21st, Assemblyman Mike Fitzpatrick, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone, Eric Alexander of Vision Long Island, and neighbors along Main Street were among the many to formally welcome this exciting new project.
“The average young business professional is looking for convenience. They want to have everything at their fingertips, they want a small carbon footprint, that helps our environment. They want to shop, enjoy lunch and dinner, and have access to mass transit to commute to work, all within walking distance. Putting a shovel in the ground today marks the first step in delivering upon this demand for smart growth communities in the heart of Main Street.” – Supervisor Ed Wehrheim
The Lofts at Maple and Main, when built, will be a walkable community located at the former sight of Nassau Suffolk Lumber & Supply Company, which has been Blighted for 12 years. The project will feature 71 Units (six of which will be for Workforce Housing) ideal for our young talented workforce, or the empty nester looking to downsize. The ground level will feature approximately 15,000 square feet of retail space and is estimated to generate $250,000 in tax ratables.
This transit oriented development will boost business along Main Street, creating a walkable community with much needed foot traffic.
The Lofts at Maple and Main by East Hampton-based developer VEA 181st Realty Corp. will consist of one mixed-use, three-story building across from Town Hall along Main Street, and two buildings off of Maple Avenue which will feature all residential apartments and a more residential look to the building’s exterior.
