Budding local artists will have their work on display throughout the Town of Smithtown’s various office buildings. Students under the tutelage of local artist Arline Goldstein of Studio 455 chose historic architecture in the hamlet of St. James as the inspiration for each interpretation. The artwork will be displayed at Town Hall, the Planning Department, Highway, and Parks Department buildings.

The exhibiting artists are: Carmela Amorosa, Harold Castrova, Arline Goldstein, Mary Ann Hart, Sunhee Kim, and Diana Weil. The historical art exhibit is intended to be enjoyed by the Township, so that residents may appreciate and celebrate a sampling of the history of the town we live in.

The historic St. James Railroad Station (built in 1843 and went into service in 1873) has always impressed these artists. Its Victorian charm and details made for the ideal choice as the subject for a rendering.
The St. James Firehouse (erected in 1922 and donated to the St. James volunteer firefighters by Mr Charles Butler) was the second historic building chosen by the artists for both its colonial revival charm and endearing significance to our community.
The artists and Mentor agreed that there will be more artwork to come celebrating the rich history of Smithtown.
