The Smithtown Animal Shelter’s Pet of the Week is Mr. Smithers, a ten year-old Male domestic shorthair kitty. Mr. Smithers was brought in to the shelter by a Good Samaritan who found him crying in a bush on Smithtown Boulevard. He has quickly learned how to enjoy his life at the shelter, stealing kisses and scratches behind the ears from the staff and volunteers at every moment of the day. Mr. Smithers likes to nudge your hand to get your attention. We bet you won’t be able to stop petting this furry Purr-baby.
We have discovered that Mr. Smithers has a manageable hyperthyroid condition that is maintained with daily medications. While he may require a little extra care than the usual independent feline, the appreciation and loyalty exhibited by Mr. Smithers could put a smile on the toughest of critics. He gets along with the other cats in the shelter and would be a welcome addition to any home that has cats. If you are looking for a best friend who enjoys spending his days perfecting the art of becoming a couch potato, doting on his every purr, look no further.
Currently, there are a variety of male and female cats & kittens available to adopt or foster. If you are looking for a fun loving, yarn tossing ball of love, stop by the Kitten Nursery or the Cat Condos at the Smithtown Animal Shelter and find a PURR-fect soulmate or two!
All of the felines at the Shelter are current on vaccines and have received a full workup (blood work, Feline HIV & Leukemia tested, physical exam etc.) by a board certified Veterinarian.
Thinking About Adoption:
The Smithtown Animal Shelter’s primary concern is finding the perfect home for each animal that finds his/her way to us. The Animal Control Officers at the Smithtown Animal Shelter will go out of their way to ensure both the rescued and rescuer are made for one another. If you have other pets, you can arrange to bring your four-legged family member into the shelter, or we can set up an at home meet & greet to see how your prospective new addition does with other family members, pets, or the household itself.
Walk-In Hours at Smithtown Animal Shelter are currently Monday – Friday 8AM – 4:30 PM and Saturday 8AM – 3:30PM. (Sunday’s: by appointment only). To inquire about the Pet of the Week or to meet your potential soulmate, please call the Smithtown Animal & Adoption Center at 631-360-7575.
