Loki, a 5 ½ year old, Male/Neutered Lab/Shepherd mix came back to the shelter a few months ago. This usually very lovable and playful boy was not himself. The resident Vet ran panels of tests and blood work. Loki was diagnosed with Aspergillosis, a very deadly infection in his nasal canal. Early diagnosis and treatment were a key factor for this particular infection.
Loki received the surgical procedure that has a 85% curative rate on the first treatment. He was nursed back to health and hand fed by the Kennel Attendants, and has begun to put back on the weight. Loki’s will to survive surpassed all of the odds stacked against him. He is a miracle, and now we’re asking residents to help Loki find a home where he can truly thrive and be loved by a family all his own.
Loki has a few more check-ups, but all of his doctors say he is healthy and expect a full recovery. He is fully vaccinated, neutered, and microchipped.
The Smithtown Animal and Adoption Center is in search of a foster home for LOKI, the Miracle Dog. A Foster to Adopt situation means that the Smithtown Animal & Adoption Center will work closely with the family that takes Loki in to ensure he is doing well, and assist with any medications and veterinary expenses until Loki has made a full recovery.
Loki is the world’s most perfect family dog. He will gladly sit and roll over around kids with open bags of snacks in anticipation of a belly rub instead of treats. Loki loves playing with stuffed animals, burying his favorite toys, and wants nothing more than to wake up next to his soulmate for the rest of time.
If you are interested in meeting Loki or any of the wonderful rescue dogs at the Smithtown Animal & Adoption Center, please call ahead to book an hour to properly interact with him in a domestic setting, which includes the Meet and Greet Room, the dog runs, and the Dog Walk trail.
Thinking About Adoption:
The Smithtown Animal & Adoption Center’s primary concern is finding the perfect home for each animal that finds his/her way to us. The Animal Control Officers at the Smithtown Animal & Adoption Center will go out of their way to ensure both the rescued and rescuer are made for one another. If you have other pets, you can arrange to bring your four-legged family member into the shelter or can set up an at home meet & greet to see how your prospective family member does with other family members, pets, or the household itself.
