99 and Celebrating

God and Margaritas

Maureen Rossi

Eunice Kash had her “party on” Saturday at the Kings Park St. Patrick’s Day parade along with thousands of other revelers.   However, unlike those revelers, it was Eunice’s 99th birthday!   Like so many other seniors, Eunice rode in a fancy car that her daughter, Kings Park native Anne Kash was driving.   Eunice partakes in the parade every year – waving to the crowds as if she were royalty. Afterwards she could be found at Professors Diner eating Corned Beef and Cabbage with family and friends.

Born in Gaffney South Carolina, she followed her calling to teach.  Warren Kash was in the Coast Guard down south when  he met and fell in love with Eunice in Georgetown South Carolina.  Eunice was teaching at the time.   The young handsome Kash stole her heart and stole her away from her students and her family and moved her to Long Island.

The couple had four children, she lives with her oldest child Anne in Kings Park; she has a son warren and twins Charman and Jim.   She taught at Indian Head School in Kings Park in the 1970’s and then substituted in all the grammar schools within the district.  Her husband worked an inspector for Hazelteen Electronics.

Kash’s son Warren is the only of her children who resides outside Long Island.   She is an active member of the Lucien Memorial United Methodist Church since 1964.   Overall she is in very good health minus some hearing loss.  When asked what has allowed or helped her to live to 99 and she laughs and says “God and Margaritas”.    She can be found at Celtic Crossing for all the multi-class reunions sipping margaritas and getting her photo taken with her former students.   Her daughter Anne says the funny thing is she remembers most of them!   Happy Birthday Mrs. Kash.
