A group of very special 8 year olds and their lacrosse Coach have begun an extraordinary fundraising effort to help their peers and other young children with cancer. On Sunday, March 19th,Coach Rob Trites, Tony James and 21 third grade lacrosse players will shave their heads for the St. Baldricks foundation. As of today, the Smithtown Third Graders have raised $14,155 to help find a cure for Childhood Cancer. On Sunday from 12 PM – 8 PM the lacrosse team, coaches and a few parents will shave their heads in solidarity for their peers with Cancer at the Park Lounge in Kings Park
“SMITHTOWN youth lacrosse puts community first. Teaching the kids to be part of a team giving back to kids in need, kids just like them, shows the boys there part of something bigger than lacrosse. Teaching compassion, understanding, giving back. It’s a lesson you could only learn by being a part of it. Raising money for others not yourself. Each kid on the team takes pride in giving back.” – Coach Rob Trites
Each third grade Lacrosse player went to family and friends to get donations in support the St. Baldricks Foundation. Some parents were so proud that they too, have pledged to shave their heads with the boys. The community is welcome to attend the head shaving event at the Park Lounge all day. There is no cover but donations are welcome during the event.
Fundraising efforts are still underway online. If you’d like to make a contribution to help fight childhood cancer, please visit the Smithtown Lacrosse Team’s fundraising page at: https://www.stbaldricks.org/teams/mypage/112816/2017
