More than 100 Smithtown High School students will head to Rochester for the New York State DECA championship competition in March. The elite high school students who advanced to state, either placed or received honorable mentions at the Suffolk County Regional DECA Competition at Suffolk County Community College. Students who place in the performance and written events at the State Championships, qualify to compete at the International DECA Competition in Orlando, Florida this April.
Awards given to individual students and teams in various fields of marketing, finance, hospitality and management, including business law, human resources, hospitality, retail, sports and entertainment marketing. In addition to students who placed at the regionals, DECA members from both High Schools will compete in the Manual Competition in Rochester, covering an array of business and marketing topics. These students will present a 15 minute oral presentation based on Manuals, previously submitted to the state in January.
Regional Officers, actively working with other DECA chapters in Suffolk County, include Smithtown students Ryan Micozzi, Jacki Keegan, Victoria Tiranno, Danielle Laurenti and Justina Tenaglia.
