Ten Smithtown High School East musicians and their teachers are surely celebrating this week. These ten young artists have been chosen to attend the prestigious New York State School Music Association’s All-State Conference. The NYSSMA All-State Conference will take place from December 1st through the 4th, 2016, in Rochester, New York. The ten talented music students were selected among thousands of performing artists to audition during the NYSSMA solo and ensemble festivals throughout the state.
Meet the Smithtown East NYSSMA All-State Conference Musicians:
- Jack Furci (jazz drum set/alternate)
- Kylie Lavrenchick (soprano I/women’s chorus)
- Max Lippman (baritone saxophone/alternate)
- Ryan MacCarthy (tenor II/mixed chorus)
- Aaron Min (alto saxophone/alternate)
- Lolita Nazarov (tenor saxophone/symphonic band)
- Keisuke Setsu (violin/alternate)
- Max Sherman (tenor I/mixed chorus)
- Brandon Star (trumpet/symphonic band)
- Justin Wei (violin/symphony orchestra)
Approximately 100,000 students compete each year during the NYSMMA Solo and ensemble spring adjudication festivals held around New York State. There are about 7,000 talented music students who audition, from all over New York State for the chance to perform in the eight All-State performing groups. Out of those 7,000, approximately 900 are selected to participate in this coveted annual honor. The NYSSMA® Winter Conference, which offers 190 workshops and performance showcases attracts some 4,000 individuals who travel to Rochester to attend.
